Thout memo: responsible AI

Thout memo: responsible AI

When it comes to AI, as you can imagine, we have a lot of thouts.

It’s a term that’s all around us. One you may have even heard multiple times just today and we’re only at the beginning. It’s rapidly accelerating, even right now as you read this. That can be really exciting—and overwhelming. Here’s our stance on it:

We believe AI is a tool, a chance to augment our lives for the better when used responsibly. We think the name is a little misleading, because Artificial Intelligence is actually giving us new real human intelligence which allows us to modernize parts of our lives we never thought possible—or didn’t have the capacity to—until the technology was in front of us. Kind of like the early days of the internet or social media.

This is where we feel we have a chance to do things a little better this time around. Being conscious that by being at the beginning of this, we have a responsibility to build and roll out our tech into the world in a smart, responsible, ethical way. Designed with humanity in mind.

We named our company thout because it’s here to help you think better, not think for you. And that’s the core of what we believe. AI should assist thought, maximize it, expand it—but never override it.

And that’s why our terms of use at thout may look a little different from what you’ve seen before. Because the first thing we believe in when it comes to AI is transparency. You should really understand and know what’s happening behind this “magic” machine.

We promise to our community when using thout:

What you think — and how you think — stays yours.

We collect and process only what’s necessary to provide you the service. That includes:

  • Account information (name, email)

  • Meeting content (recordings, transcripts, notes) — only if you choose to record or upload to the platform

  • Basic usage metrics to improve performance (e.g. how often you use certain features)

You can:

  • Export or delete your data anytime

  • Control what content is stored

  • Revoke any permissions you’ve given

You retain full ownership of your content — audio, text, uploads, notes, etc. Thout only uses your data to deliver the service to you. We don’t sell it, train our models on it without consent, or share it with advertisers.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.

By accessing or using Thout, we expect our community to:

  • Use it responsibly and ethically.

  • Not share others’ data or recordings without consent.

  • Not misuse thout.ai™ to generate, share, or store harmful, illegal, or abusive content.

  • Be honest about who you are and keep your login credentials private.

And on the note of privacy, we believe trust in our platform is just as important as the efficiency it delivers. That’s why all data collected by thout is protected by end-to-end encryption.

Our final thouts :

  • AI outputs are never final truth — they’re a starting point.

  • We support human oversight in all workflows.

  • Our models do not:

    • Auto-save sensitive info unless you choose to keep it.

    • Auto-train on your inputs unless you opt in.

    • Simulate decision-making or consent.

And because AI is so new, we’re also learning as we go, just like you. So it’s important to keep our ears and minds open. If you have any questions or concerns, we’d love to hear your thouts. Really. Just email us at community@thout.ai
