Audio & recording

Audio is how meetings get into Thout. You can record a live voice note in your browser, upload an existing audio file, or send the Thout bot to a video call. This guide covers recording (pause, resume, end, delete), uploading files, and what happens next. (For the bot joining video calls, see the Meetings guide.)

Three ways to bring audio into Thout

Thout turns audio into a transcript and insights. There are three ways to get audio in, all from the Meetings page:

Method When to use it Where
Record a live voice noteCapture a conversation happening right now, in your browser.More capture options > Record a voice note
Upload an audio fileYou already have a recording saved as a file.Audio upload
Send the Thout botA Zoom / Google Meet / Teams call — the bot joins and records it.Meetings guide

After capture, all three converge: Thout transcribes the audio (see Transcripts) and generates the analysis (see Insights & Analytics). While that runs, the meeting shows Generating insights...

How to record a live voice note

Record audio straight from your browser — Thout transcribes and summarises it automatically.

  1. On the Meetings page click the microphone button (or More capture options > Record a voice note).
  2. Grant microphone access when your browser asks. Recording begins in the New live audio window.
  3. While recording you'll see a live waveform, an elapsed timer, and the status Audio recording...

Pause End

Pause, resume, end, or delete

  • Pause — suspends recording; the status changes to Audio paused... and the button becomes Resume.
  • Resume — continues the same recording where you left off.
  • End — finishes the recording and hands it to transcription (the meeting shows Generating insights...).
  • The trash icon discards the recording — a Delete Recording? prompt confirms it will be permanently deleted.

Delete Recording?

This recording will be permanently deleted.

Cancel Delete
The Delete Recording? confirmation — Cancel keeps the recording; Delete removes it permanently.

Note: if your browser blocks the microphone, grant Thout mic permission in your browser's site settings and try again.

How to upload an audio file

Already have a recording? Upload the file and Thout will transcribe and summarise it.

  1. On the Meetings page click More capture options > Audio upload.
  2. In the Add an audio file window, drag a file onto the drop zone or click Browse files.
  3. Thout uploads the file, then transcribes and generates notes.

Audio tips & FAQ

Which audio file formats can I upload?

MP3, M4A, and WAV files up to 120 minutes long.

Can I pause a recording and come back to it?

Yes. Click Pause to suspend, then Resume to continue the same recording. Click End when you're done.

I clicked the trash icon by mistake — is my recording gone?

Deleting asks you to confirm first (Delete Recording?). Choose Cancel to keep it; only Delete removes it permanently.

Thout can't hear me / the mic won't start.

Your browser is blocking microphone access. Allow the microphone for Thout in your browser's site settings, then start the recording again.

What happens after I end a recording or finish an upload?

The audio goes to transcription and the meeting shows Generating insights... When it finishes, open the meeting for the transcript and insights.

How do I record a Zoom, Meet, or Teams call?

Paste the meeting link so the Thout bot joins and records it — see the Meetings guide.
